Congratulations to our Namaste Elementary First Lego League Robotics Team, The Electric Axolotls, for winning first place for Core Values. They competed with 42 teams at the FLL Regional Robotic Tournament in Buffalo! The judges issue awards in four areas, one of which is Core Values. The other areas are innovation project, robot design, and robot missions.
Prior to the regional tournament, the Namaste Robotics team won first place locally, for their biogas innovation project. Out of 18 teams, the judges selected the Electric Axolotls as one of five teams scoring an overall high score in all areas.
Each year the elementary students work toward the First Lego League Robotic competition, preparing their robot with coding and attachments to complete complicated missions. Additionally, they research an on-theme project to present as an innovative solution to the identified issue. The work helps the team build cooperation and mutual respect.
The robotics curriculum at Namaste is part of their partnership with 4H and is provided both as part of the school day and after school as a club. Parent volunteers do much of the work with the team, providing expertise and support. Through the program, the students practice important coding and logic. They also practice making presentations and working under pressure!
